CHEPSTOW CC's all-rounder Mitchell Harris made up for the disappointment of a debatable LBW by taking 4-24 to

finish off Newbridge at the weekend.

But this was no one-man show as the home side humbled rivals Newbridge, bowling them out for 160 and replacing them in second place in the Thomas Carroll Glamorgan and Monmouthshire Cricket League Division 1.

A similar score looked on the cards for Chepstow earlier as their batsmen made decent starts but were unable to convert them into much larger scores.

Carwyn James (29) was the first to go after hitting five boundaries, bowled by Lewes Jenkins, and while opening partner Gareth Ansell top-scored with 44, he lost Tyler Morgan-Huggett (12) and Mitchell Harris (8) before Dave Teague (34) joined him at the crease.

Ansell became Newbridge bowler Tony Birt's third victim in a five-for haul at the cost of 39 runs and there were some worried faces around the ground.

But Chepstow bat deep these days and, although the next three wickets fell for only 25 runs, Alyn Franklin (28 including two maximums), Jon Roberts (18 which also included two mighty sixes) and Tudor Morgan Huggett (3) saw Chepstow cross the 200 mark and finish on 238-9.

Roberts continued where he left off with the bat by trapping opener Cael Jones LBW after scoring just one run, although that decision – like Harris' earlier dismissal – might have been debatable.

Jones indicated the ball had struck his thigh suggesting it would have sailed over the wickets.

However, with no modern technology available at this level, he was forced to accept the decision.

His replacement, Lewis Parfitt joined him in the pavilion after scoring only five before being caught behind by Ansell off Roberts' bowling and then opener James Morgan (27) became Roberts' third victim in a 3-34 eight-over spell which included one maiden.

Will Davey steadied the ship with a top score of 46 before becoming Harris' first victim, caught by Chepstow skipper Jason Dobbie, and after Teague bowled Ben Wellington for 18, only Jake Watkins (33) offered any real resistance before he too fell to Harris, caught by Tyler Morgan-Huggett.

Dobbie bowled Jamie Baker (10) and although Tom Kinsey made 13 not out, Harris and Teague polished off the last three wickets for just two runs.
