YOUNG wicketkeeper Gareth Ansell scored 86 to give Chepstow CC 1sts a great start as they chased Radyr's 226 all out, at Mathern Road on Saturday.
Ansell opened Chepstow's innings with Carwyn James, and the pair scored quickly before James departed, having scored 30.
Dave Teague, in at number four, joined Ansell and contributed 60 to the home side's score as the target grew closer.
With Ansell out, Jamie Rayner and skipper Jason Dobbie saw Chepstow to six wicket victory.
In their innings Radyr suffered early setbacks. Chepstow's Jon Roberts trapped opener Rhodri Lloyd for a duck with his second delivery and Teague held a smart catch to send the other opener back to the shed – again without troubling the scorers.
But the visitors' skipper Rhys Lloyd struck 33 runs before falling to Dobbie and he was quickly followed by Howard Stone (35) when Tyler Morgan-Huggett celebrated his birthday holding a catch to give Teague his first wicket.
Tyler's twin brother Tudor followed suit by holding a catch off Swingwood's bowling to remove Radyr's danger man Huw Williams on 108 and their innings stuttered to a halt.
Roberts took 4-45 from 9.1 overs, and Swingwood added 3-25 from seven with Dobbie, Teague and Carwyn James taking a wicket apiece.
"It was a much-needed win," said Dobbie.
"We did well to bowl them out fairly cheaply on an excellent pitch,
"Our batsmen batted with maturity in chasing down the total, especially 18-year-old Gareth Ansell.
"We have another 'must-win' match this weekend when we visit Malpas CC."
In the return fixture, Malith Madurasinghe took 4-25 and held a catch to give Tim Rees (2-33) his first wicket as Radyr were restricted to 169 all out in their 45 overs.
"Malith was returning after injury and he bowled with control in the middle overs," said seconds' skipper Huw Rogers.
"He was well-supported by our spin twins, Justin Thornhill and Lewys Jones and in our reply, Malith (47) and Scott Bailey (20) gave us a good start.
"Tuhin Gavand was our mainstay with a forceful 54 and despite losing a flurry of wickets we reached the target in the 36th over."
Meanwhile, at Mill Lane, Caldicot, Sudbrook CC 1sts restricted Pontypridd to 162-9 in their 50 overs and easily reached the target with the loss of only four wickets to win by six wickets.
In the return fixture at Pontypridd, Sudbrook skipper Jamie Watkins scored 57 and James Kinchin was 47 not out as they posted 190-5 in their 45 overs.
In reply, Pontypridd were 166 all out with Watkins claiming 4-25 and Martin Norton 3-25.
