As a new venture, Monmouth
Bridge Club will be holding a
course of lessons at Bridges Community
Centre which will be open
to anyone who plays bridge and
not just club members.
The first lesson will be on
Thursday 6th November from
2pm until 4pm, and subsequent
lessons will be held on alternate
Thursday afternoons. They are
aimed at those who already play
bridge at a basic level and would
like to improve and also at those
who have played in the past and
wish to refresh their bridge
knowledge.
The lessons will be taken by
Churchill Al Temimi, pictured,
one of the club's most experienced
players. Each afternoon will consist
of an instruction session followed
by a bridge playing session
during which players will be
helped with their bidding and
card play.
The club hopes that all participants
will enjoy these lessons and
that their confidence will be
boosted. In order that players can
socialise and get to know each
other, the afternoon will include a
short break for tea/ coffee. There
will be a charge of £1.50 per person
per lesson to cover costs.
The course will consist of at
least 6 lessons – the Wye Room at
Bridges has been booked for 6th &
20th November, 4th & 18th
December and 15th & 29th January.
The club's next match is on 4th
November against Chepstow
Bridge Club (at Chepstow).
As one can expect in a community
bridge club, its 50 members
are of varying bridge playing
standards, from very good to
almost beginners. From time to
time seminars are given to help
members improve their bridge,
but an aim of the club is that
every member should enjoy playing
bridge in a friendly environment.
Anyone interested in attending
the bridge lessons at Bridges or
playing of an evening at the club
is warmly invited to contact the
secretary, Linda Blunt (01600
714847) or the chairman, Bob
Squire (01989 565470).
