A record 27 members of Spirit Of Monmouth Running Club took part in the recent Cardiff Half Marathon which is the most runners by far since the club was formed back in 2008.
The group was made up of regular club runners as well as a number who were completing the distance for the first time as the club caters for everyone and all abilities of runner.
Local dentist Gareth Jones was first home for the club in a time of 1.26.47. Hot on his heels was George Smith who was closely followed by Allan Meek. The first lady home was Emma King who crossed the line in 1.45.24 not far behind was Sian Stroud then Ali Phillips was the next over the line followed by many more Spirit Of Monmouth Runners.
The club has seen numbers grown significantly over the past year to almost 100 after offering new to running courses which have proved very popular with the option to join the club at the end of the course and many have take advantage of this.
The cross country season is upon the club with a number of members competing in the first Gwent Leisure Centre League race of the season at Pontypool Park this coming weekend.
