Goytre are making the early running in the Floodlighting and Electrical Ardal South East table following a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Caldicot Town at Plough Road on Tuesday evening, August 9.

It was the visitors that opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Ben Smith took advantage of an error in the Goytre defence, following a long ball played forward by Caldicot Town goalkeeper Matthew Sandiford, before running through on goal to finish past Gareth Wesson. Goytre suffered a further blow 13 minutes later when they were reduced to ten men in an off-the-ball incident. However, the Plough Road outfit were back on level terms when Chris Ham netted Jordan Needs’ 41st minute corner. The match was turned around completely, nine minutes into the second-half, when substitute Mane Sanha netted with a neat finish after Lee Hartshorn had laid the ball off him inside the penalty area.

Goytre were due to host local rivals Croesyceiliog on Friday evening before entertaining Lliswery the following Tuesday. Meanwhile, Caldicot Town were looking to bounce back as they welcomed promoted Brecon Corries to Jubilee Way on Saturday August 13.
