I work with vulnerable children and families within the NHS, a job that is always busy and demanding, sometimes heart-breaking but also very rewarding. While driving home I heard the announcement that the Welsh Assembly Government had decided to spend £5.4 million on building a museum of football in Wrexham.

I accept that many people enjoy football, and will undoubtedly travel to visit such a venue, but I am doubtful that the enormous cost will be off-set by paying visitors.

I am left with a mixture of astonishment, frustration and anger that this could possibly be seen as a good use of taxpayers’ money in the current financial climate.

We are all aware of the anticipated reduction in the amount of money received by the Welsh Assembly Government and the many demands placed upon the budget by the health service, social care, education and housing. We are also aware of the cuts that local government is faced with making, despite increased demand upon services.

We are also aware of the need to spend on issues arising from the climate emergency. This is not a party political protest, I am a Labour supporter, and have a lot of respect for the aspirations and achievements of the WAG.  Against this background, my question to the members of the Senedd, is similar to that issued in anger by Mark Drakeford to an opposition member last year, “What world are you living in?”
