If anyone had any lingering belief in the trustworthiness of the Russian President the last few days must have been a Damascene wake up call.

The tyrant has made his move.

We should fully condemn and oppose the invasion of Ukraine with every breath and fibre.

We do not know what the ordinary Russian people think since the Kremlin do not believe in democracy and the foremost opposition leader, Alexei Navalny is in jail.

Bravely increasing numbers in Russia are demonstrating their opposition.

Why is the largest country in the world, stretching across 11 time-zones and with a declining population seeking to re-create an Empire in Eastern Europe?

We should strengthen Europe’s borders with Russia and actively support the security of non NATO members, such as Georgia when invited to do so.

We should apply the strongest economic sanctions – mealy mouthed half measures will not do. Our hearts and prayers go out to the people of Ukraine.
