Pupils at Shirenewton Primary school have become entrepreneurs within their own classroom. The school is currently collecting second-hand clothing bundles and selling them online. Half of the proceeds will go to disadvantaged schools in Rwanda with the other half contributing to Shirenewton's end of year treat, a circus skills class. Year Six pupils have harnessed the support of the school and encouraged them to make bundles to sell online. The project is designed to help parents save money on clothing for their children in an environmentally friendly way. Ffion Bird, 11, said: "The school's eco-committee thought of taking part in the Re-like project as it is a useful to recycle second hand clothes." Eloise Peach-Bishop, 11, said: "The Re-like website is better for recycling clothes than taking them to a charity shop. "Over half of the clothes donated to charity shops will be shipped to Poland and then to Africa. "This creates a huge carbon footprint. "We had a non-uniform day today. In return, pupils had to bring in a bundle of clothes." Pupils at the school have been learning transferrable skills such as project management, promotion, social media and networking. According to pupil Tom Lewis, 11, the school has been following the PMI cycle and have learnt about scope of deliverables and entrepreneurs. The school is actively promoting their project on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Shirenewton Primary would like to harness the support of the community by inviting residents to go online and buy their bundles. It is hoped that the initiative will encourage other schools in the area to contribute to the Re-like website by selling bundles and helping their carbon footprint. Pupils are aiming to raise £200 from selling the bundles.
