Wyesham Wanderers 2
Chepstow Grape Rovers 4
Wyesham Wanderers welcomed top of the league Chepstow Grape Rovers to the show ground on Saturday. In the sixth minute Wanderers struck first with Liam Radnor breaking clear and neatly finishing.
With Chepstow unable to catch their breath on a freezing afternoon Wanderers almost doubled their lead when Meredith's scorching drive sailed inches wide. Twenty minutes into the game and Grape finally found their feet when an hopeful punt upfield deceived the Wyesham defence and fell kindly to an unmarked striker to head in. Wyesham continued to push for their second goal and almost got it when Townsend's strike clipped the post and went wide. With Wyesham having the better of the first thirty minutes they were unlucky to go behind, a long range Grape effort came back off the cross bar and again landed to the feet of one of their strikers to tap in. In the 56th minute Wyesham deservedly equalised when some great patient build up play resulted in Gazza Powell finishing powerfully. Wyesham were then unlucky not to take the lead for the second time when Sam Hamley's effort came back off the post, Liam Radnor was unable to finish off the rebound. Chepstow then made Wyesham pay for their mistakes when in the 80th minute an uncleared corner was greatfully headed in. Then on the 84th minute Grape put the game out of Wyesham's reach when another corner was headed in. Manager Stephens added said "the game summed up our season so far, we played brilliantly and still got nothing out of the game. I'm proud of the boys, they did a good job against the top of the league. the score line flatters Grape, they were very lucky to get the points." Wyesham would like to thank Valley Construction LTD, Eagle Plant, Rage Motors and Dave Wellington Garden Services. Wyesham welcome Bulwark to the showground next Saturday.
