Wyesham Wanderers     1

Rockfield Rovers        0

The last local derby match of the season brought Rockfield down to the Showground on Saturday to face a Wyesham team who haven't played for three weeks.

Rockfield got the game underway and Wanderers immediately shook of their cobwebs, with only two minutes on the clock winger Dave Townsend got in behind the defence but misjudged his shot and aimed straight at the Rockfield goalie.

Wyesham managed to control the game and created further chances which saw Garon Powell hit both the crossbar and the post.

It looked like another one of those days for Wyesham when with 27 minutes on the clock a rare Rockfield attack nearly ended in a goal.

Wyesham`s Dave Cox was judged to be pushing inside the box. The resulting penalty was however blasted horribly wide. Wyesham continued to work the Rockfield defence and almost took the lead on the stroke of half time when more great build up play created space for Brett Cox, his strike producing a great save from the Rockfield goalie.

Wanderers started the second half and continued where they left off.

Dave Cox sliding the ball through to Powell who rounded the keeper and saw his shot come back off the post.

In the 51 minute Wyesham got the break through they deserved when some more patient build up resulted in Liam Radnor finishing from Close range.

Things turned from bad to worse for Rockfield when in the 74th minute Baldwin talked himself into his second yellow of the match and immediate dismissal.

Wyesham were then unlucky not to get a penalty of their own when a blatant handball was unseen by the referee.

With only five minutes remaining wanderers almost doubled their lead when Stephens found himself unmarked at a corner and sent his powerful header narrowly over. Rockfield where then lucky not to have a second player sent off when the referee missed Buffin`s wild challenge on Wyesham`s Powell.

With only seconds on the clock Powell struck the bar for the forth time with a sublime strike from the edge of the box. Wyesham's Stephens said after the game

"We deserved the win, we were by far the better team and played good football, we kept a clean sheet and could have scored five more" said Stephens.
