Sir,

Thank you for your kind article in last week's Beacon about our 100 mile canoe trip on the Wye in aid of St. David's Hospice Foundation. In the interests of geographical accuracy, however, our journey didn't start at Welsh Bicknor, as reported, but over 70 miles further up river at Glasbury. (We wouldn't want our many generous sponsors to think we paddled short of the target!)

Once again our thanks go to Monmouth Canoe Centre for the canoes, safety equipment and months of training. Our support crew was brilliant, delivering fantastic feasts and picnics en route and a special mention must go to our "roadie", Brent, for pitching tents in the afternoons and packing up camp in the mornings.

Without our kayaking guides on the final leg to see us safely under The Severn Bridge to Beachly, we would probably have finished our journey at Ilfracombe.

We were so incredibly lucky with the weather and The Wye was very kind - it is certainly the most beautiful river in the world. The paddling was hard at times, but who could complain about aching shoulders and blistered fingers when there were Canada geese, herons and cormorants around every bend of the river, kingfishers in the willows and an otter by Brockweir Bridge.

Sponsorship money is still coming in -visit http://www.justgiving.com/v4yewomen">www.justgiving.com/v4yewomen for more information - and 100% goes to St. David's.
