A review has concluded that the speed limit over the Wye Bridge in Chepstow will remain at 50mph.

As part of a review across the trunk road network, Traffic Wales concluded earlier this year that the section over the bridge will retain its current speed limit.

The decision comes after a petition by school children and the public in May 2013, and correspondence between the council and Edwina Hart AM Minister for economy, science and transport aiming to reduce the speed limit over the busy section of the A48 to 30mph.

In a letter to Sandra Bushell, Chepstow Town Council clerk, Ms Hart stated that Traffic Wales intend to install pedestrian guardrails on the footway across the bridge with the intention of improving pedestrian safety- adding that detailed designs have been completed. The work is being treated as part of Traffic Wales’ prioritised programme of engineering work.
