Work is underway on a new GP's surgery in Trellech.
The ceremonial cutting of the sod took place last Friday (2nd September) and building work should be completed by Easter 2012.
The new surgery, being built on a former children's play area in Roman Park View, will provide easy access and state-of-the-art equipment.
"We're so excited, we've been waiting for this for five years," said Dr Rowena Christmas, one of the GPs who will be moving into the new site.
The current surgery is a small building that is rapidly becoming unfit for purpose, with a cramped waiting area and small car park
"This will be a modern facility which will allow us to carry out minor operations, and have more space in reception and for people to park," added Dr Christmas.
Plans for the new surgery, which will have room for 25 cars as well as turning space for vans and ambulances, were opposed by residents at the start of the planning process.
The Beacon reported back in March 2010 how the loss of public open space and road safety issues were of concern to neighbours and Trellech United councillors.
