A 57-year-old woman was rescued from the River Wye in the early hours of last Thursday (31st October).

The police, fire service and SARA assisted in her rescue.

A spokesperson from SARA said: "SARA was called to assist the police and fire service at the A48 bridge at approximately 3.45am.

"A vessel with a full rescue crew arrived at the scene very quickly, rescued the woman and delivered her into the hands of the NHS."

A Gwent police spokesperson said: "We were called at 3.30am on Thursday 31st October following a report of a 57-year-old woman under the rail bridge between Chepstow and Sedbury.

"Officers attended, along with SARA. The woman was brought to safety and she was then conveyed by ambulance to Frenchay hospital to be checked over. She sustained no serious injuries."
