FOLLOWING a highly successful competition involving local Monmouth schools, Monmouth Music Festival is delighted to announce two winners in the design competition for the new festival t-shirts.

At the end of last year’s Monmouth Music Festival the committee decided to reach out to the town’s budding artists.

The committee asked all the senior schools to participate in designing a new logo for the festival’s souvenir t-shirts.

The response to this request was quite overwhelming and the judges took a long time to decide the winner.

With some fantastic entries from all the schools involved, the winner of the t-shirt competition was debated for quite some time.

The judges finally settled on Hamish Lawson’s simple but bold design.

But all the judges agreed that Tom Cavilla’s colourful design would make a fantastic poster and so, highly impressed by the standard of entries, the judges were pleased to choose “two winners”.

Both boys are currently studying in year seven. Their entries showed an advanced understanding and great interpretation of the brief.

This helped them stand out from a field of very, very good entries.

Mel Ralph, festival co-chair, said: “As a community event it is rewarding to have the involvement of the local schools in this project. We’ve had a fantastic response from the schools.

“The quality of work and the imagination involved made it quite difficult to choose the winner”

“We look forward to seeing the t-shirt being worn around the town this summer and the poster advertising the festival in many of the shop windows.”

Monmouth Festival takes place this year from 22nd until 30th July.
