Usk entertained Llanhilleth last Saturday (23rd October) and their crippling injury list continued to hamper team selection, particularly among the forwards.

This week saw club chairman Stuart Galletley and secretary Ian Jeffery wheeled out of retirement to bolster the numbers.

In the early stages of the game, each side kicked a penalty with Andy Peginton being successful for Usk.

The Usk pack bravely competed against a heavier and more experienced pack. Eventually the deadlock was broken but surprisingly it was Usk that scored.

The ball went along the line and reached Finn Mitchell on the Usk wing and he scored with an impressive dive over the line.

The second half started as the first half finished with Usk unable to get good, clean ball from scrum or lineout, but they continued to compete and disrupt any Llanhilleth attacks.

On halfway, Llanhilleth dropped the ball and Andy Farrell kicked through and Finn Mitchell joined in the kicking game and dribbled over the line before diving on the ball for his second try of the game.

Late on, Llanhilleth scored a converted try but it was too little, too late to deny Usk a victory by 13-10.

After the game, the Annual Usk RFC Conker Tournament took place and this was won by club chairman Stuart Galletley.
