Cavaliers and Roundheads are invited to explore Wilton Castle for free on Saturday, September 9th. The owners of Wilton Castle have allowed Ross Civic Society to open the castle for one day only to anyone interested in the history of this fascinating building. The Castle Gardens will be open from 10am until 5pm and there will be a best Cavalier hat competition for children at 3pm. In the afternoon local historian Heather Hurley will tell the story of the castle and the people who lived there. There will be placards advertising the Heritage Open Day at the free Wilton Road car park. Then visitors can follow the riverside footpath over Wilton Bridge to the castle gate which will be marked with red balloons. Refreshments can be purchased at the buttery bar and there is parking for disabled visitors at the castle. For more information about this unique opportunity telephone Daphne Wyatt on 01432 840294.
