SIR, I hear the planners here have now turned down the opening of a Subway sandwich shop. All kinds of obstacles have been put in the way of the Dixton Road Roundabout proposals and, again, delays to many housing projects. At the same time the A40 congestion continues to get worse and nothing is done. I am coming to the conclusion that whoever has influence and power in this town does not want progress of any kind. Who does this approach benefit? There may well come a time when developers and businesses give up with Monmouth. Will those in power even care? Please wake up. Stephen Starkie (Whitchurch)
