SIR,
I wonder if your readers could help me locate a tearoom in a village that has apparently 'vanished'.
I came across it while travelling through the Monmouthshire-Herefordshire countryside last year. It lay somewhere in that sweep of land that encompasses dozens of villages dotted about the terrain south-west of Hereford and north of Monmouth and Abergavenny.
The house itself was a medium-size stone-built one, possibly Edwardian, that, travelling south-south-west, stood at the top of a slight incline on the right-hand corner of a very small village with muddy roads. A cart track ran alongside it on the western side.
One of the rooms had been converted into the small tea-room that overlooked a very large lawn at the edge of which, near the side door, visitors could park. The couple who ran it were in their mid-thirties and quite capable of producing a splendid breakfast from local suppliers.
One major clue will most certainly identify it: although it would be more correct to describe it as a tearoom, I recall that on the opposite side of the road was a makeshift sign referring to it as a café.
I have scoured the area on eight occasions but I have failed to find it. I hope your readers will be able to help. Anyone who can may call me on 07719 857790.
