SIR,
My congratulations on a recent front page of The Beacon. As a very recent Monmouth resident, I am not that conversant with items of local interest as this.
However, my first reaction was: Where is democracy? I can appreciate the division of interest between the local shopper interested in a Tesco or Asda, but the vast majority of interested parties appear to want to leave it all as it is and save the taxpayer some £5m in the process.
As the elected members should be presenting the case for the majority, how can our County Councillors vote otherwise? There are no doubt matters of money and politics of which I am unaware, but I am sure that all will be revealed in time.
Just for the record, I could not respond to Mr Simmonds sooner, but, for his information, I am not moving from some wealthy part of England to a cheaper property in Monmouth, where I find that the property is amongst the more expensive in Wales and similar in cost to what I left in Porthcawl.
