SIR,
A few years ago I was collecting for charity in Agincourt Square when a group of tourists came round the corner and stopped short exclaiming, "Oh, how lovely!".
The cause of their delight was the sight of our magnificent Shire Hall with its colourful, bustling market around it.
Nowadays the Shire Hall is still beautiful but looks lifeless.
The chief officer for regeneration and culture states that the market will impinge on weddings.
Everyone to whom I have spoken says that this would add to the fun and atmosphere of their wedding and would not bother them at all.
I was present at the council meeting where Mike Booth gave an excellent review of the Shire Hall and where various councillors attempted to put forward the views of the majority of the townspeople about the relocation of the market.
Ms Beirne spouted the usual gobbledegook about 'evidence based discussion and options and opportunities'.
There have been meetings, followed by more meetings and, no doubt, sub-committees formed all to discuss one simple matter.
The Shire Hall is equipped to receive the market back, most of the stall-holders want to return and the vast majority of the townspeople want it back where it belongs.
So, what is the problem?
