My friend and I joined a tour of the Shire Hall a few weeks ago and what an interesting tour Mike Booth gave us.
The history and the work done to restore the hall was enlightening. Thank you Mike.
But one room is to be no more, this being the town council's original room.
They will be having their meetings in whichever reception room is available, meaning that they will no longer have the raised platform where the mayor sits to reside over council meetings.
In my opinion a beautiful piece of historical carpentry will be lost.
I appreciate that rooms have to be used for functions, business meetings etc. to keep money coming in for the upkeep of the hall, but I am sad that that room is to be lost.
To all involved in getting this magnificent building restored, well done.
