THE West End musical star Peter Karrie paid an unexpected visit to the Anchor Pub in Tintern last week, where helpful staff kept the Anchor tearoom open to serve him coffee and chocolate cake.

Mr Karrie is best known for his part as the Phantom in the 'Phantom of the Opera' and was the longest running artist to perform this role for Andrew Lloyd Webber.

He recently appeared at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff playing Tomos Treharne in 'After Rebecca', the new Welsh musical about the Rebecca Riots.

Mr Karrie is set to tour around Wales in smaller venues and is due to perform an evening of songs from the musicals, plus a selection of new songs from his most recent album 'Standing Alone', at the Bridges Community Centre in Monmouth on 1st November.
