WORK is going ahead to fix a water leak in Mitchel Troy after residents posed their concerns to local councillors.

The leak which has been ongoing since last Friday has been flooding the road into Monmouth by the recycling centre, which raised worries for local residents.

Locals reported the issue to Councillor Richard John and Councillor Jayne Mckenna last Friday (July 31). Welsh Water investigated the issue and said they needed specialist fittings to complete the repair.

The councillors received an update from Welsh Water this morning (Wednesday August 5) confirming that the specialist fittings they need will be arriving today, enabling their contractors to complete the repair either today or tomorrow.

Cllr Richard John said: “Against a backdrop of water shortages, wildfires and hosepipe bans across the country, water companies should be doing all they can to minimise wastage of water.

“This leak has been going on far too long and we’re hopeful that it will be repaired in the coming hours.”

Cllr Jayne McKenna said: “This week-long leak and the resulting flooding across the carriageway makes a complete mockery of water companies lecturing the public about conserving water.

“I hope Welsh Water will learn lessons from this leak and consider how it could have been repaired more quickly.”
