St Kingsmark archer Huw Jones claimed his first European record at the Hampshire double FITA Star tournament on the weekend of 20th and 21st September.

He shot a new personal best of 328 points at the 50m distance, just a single point ahead of the current European Masters record held by Italy's Alvise Betolini.

If ratified by GNAS and World Archery Europe, Huw will become the third British recurve archer to hold a European record alongside Olympic archers Larry Godfrey and Simon Needham.

The record claimed is in the European Master Recurve section which covers the FITA 50+ age group.

Ironically, this achievement comes just a month after Huw won his first ever 'Junior' medal at the same venue.

Huw achieved the highest recurve score of the day at AC Delco's 'Bus Pass Albion'. This tournament was for archers in the 60-plus age group. Being under this age (by just a few months) Huw won the under-60 'junior' category.
