HE may not be trained in Wales, but there is no doubting the Welsh blood in the winner of the principal race of 2009 at the Home of Welsh Racing.
Dream Alliance was bred in Cefn Forest, and enjoyed his greatest triumph in the Coral Welsh National on behalf of his 23 owners who pay £10 a week each to own the horse.
It was also a fantastic comeback for the horse that had previously suffered a potentially career-threatening injury. Jockey Tom O'Brien was returning too, after a layout off due to a broken leg.
None were more thrilled than Dream Alliance's breeders Jan and Brian Vokes whose bird Will's Dream took pigeon racing's equivalent of the Welsh National more than a decade ago.
The day was not without drama, as the racetrack had to survive four inspections due to overnight frost before Clerk of the Course Tim Long could give the go-ahead for racing to take place, just an hour before the first race.
Richard Holland, General Manager of Chepstow Racecourse, said: "Coral Welsh National day was a superb occasion for all who came to Chepstow Racecourse, and we were delighted to be raising funds for the Welsh Guards Afghanistan Appeal.
"The racecourse staff made a tremendous effort to get racing on, and we are grateful to all our visitors for their patience which was richly rewarded with a sporting day to remember."
The next racing at Chepstow Racecourse is on Friday 22 January.
