Last weekend saw Haberdashers' Monmouth School for Girls play host to over 150 girls competing in Lacrosse, Netball and Rowing. In Lacrosse, HMSG 1st and 2nd XII teams won the South Wales Lacrosse Rally for the second year running. They battled it out in 7 games each to come out on top against their competitors which included Cheltenham Ladies College and Morton Hall. Impressively, both teams' goalies only let in one goal each throughout the whole tournament. Their wins will help with their preparation for the West of England tournament, National Schools Championship and their Tour to the USA in April 2008. The Under 15 Lacrosse team also played extremely well with the team finishing third in the tournament. To scoop third place they won their matches against Malvern St James, Royal Grammar School, Alice Ottley, Westonbirt, Howells and Malvern College. In Netball, HMSG's Under 13 A and B and Under 14 A and B teams took on Bristol based Badminton School. The U13 A and Under 14 A teams outplayed the opposition to take comfortable victories. Although the Under 13 B team was defeated, all the players put in an excellent performance. Twenty-two girls competed in the Monmouth Autumn Head of the River rowing event. The event marked the start of the new racing season for the rowers at HMSG. There were some outstanding performances with wins in Division 1 Women's Junior 18 Double Sculls, Division 2 Women's Junior 18 Sculls, and Division 3 Women's Junior 16 Sculls. The Junior 14 team also managed to beat a junior 15 girls' crew despite having only been rowing for a couple of months. A successful day all round, well done HMSG!
