A community playgroup could be forced to close in September, after more than 30 years in business, if it is unable to find a new home.

Monmouth Community Under 5s has been issued an ultimatum of being able to maintain payments and guarantee rent for five days a week for the duration of the school year to Monmouthshire County Council if it wishes to continue in its current site at Overmonnow Family Learning Centre on Victoria Estate.

Being a registered charity, the playgroup has always tried to keep fees for the paying children at a reasonable level, but while rent and wages have been continuously rising, the income supplied by education authorities has remained constant.
