MADAM,
A few years ago I watched with interest an amazing structure being erected across the A465 around Abergavenny.
Shock and disbelieve ensued when I was informed it was a bat bridge. It must have cost hundreds of thousands. (My research has shown some in north Wales cost almost one million.)
Substantial concrete bases and cables strung across the road, now they have gone. Why? If it did not work why put it up in the first place? How much did it cost to put up, and how much did it cost to take down? Divide this figure by the approximate number of bats that were supposed to use it and what have you got?
I wonder if the Beacon could send a sleuth to expose this shocking waste of money. I am all for happy healthy bats, but for ’batty people’ who approve such ludicrous schemes with no accountability, I have no time at all.
