Monmouth Warriors 0 Abergavenny 27
Last Sunday the Monmouth Warriors (under 13's) entertained old rivals Abergavenny. Conditions were not ideal, with driving rain at times and the ground very muddy in patches.
The opening exchanges were even with the Warriors shading the territorial advantage. Forwards Joe Walters, Harry Miles, Jack Nuttall and Andrew Morgan competed aggressively at the breakdown whilst wingers Liam Richards and Oliver Turney both had determined runs before being held up.
The Warriors then lost possession on the half way line and before they could regroup the Abergavenny number 7 had sprinted away to score under the posts.
Abergavenny were now enjoying most of the possession despite the valiant efforts of flankers Joe Bezani and Will Korb.
The visitors mounted a series of attacks and it needed some excellent tackling by centres Dan Dunmore and Max Senior to keep them out. However the pressure eventually told on them and the Warriors conceded their second try to leave the score 12 – 0 at half time.
Soon after the restart the Warriors were caught napping and with nobody falling on the ball Abergavenny were able to hack on several times to gain almost 30 metres before winning the race for the touchdown.
With half backs Jacob Webley and Max Davies under relentless pressure from the Abergavenny back row the Warriors were seldom able to break out of their own half.
A try saving tackle under the posts by full back Morgan Paley supported by Ben Zorab prevented another score.
Endeavour is never an issue with the Warriors and forwards Dan Musselbrook, Sean McMahon, Jonathan Clewes and Dan Edwards exemplified that spirit as they fought to contain the visitors' forwards who dominated ball and territory.
However Abergavenny showed a far sharper cutting edge and scored a further two tries to run out worthy winners.
