A FATHER will be walking a mammoth 100km later this year to raise money for Ruby Atkins. Three-year-old Ruby has been diagnosed with bilateral cerebral palsy, meaning her ability to walk unaided is restricted. £40,000 needs to be raised for Ruby to receive Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) treatment to reduce spasticity in her legs. The operation is not funded on the NHS. Andy Hosking, who is a friend of the Atkins family, will walk from Putney Bridge to Henley. Dubbed as the "24 hour walk", Andy will inevitably trek through the night. This isn't the first challenge Andy has signed himself up for in aid of Ruby. In March Andy completed the Wales Three Peak Challenge which saw him tackle the Blorenge, Sugarloaf and Skirrid, raising £800 for the tot. Andy has started his training in preparation for the marathon walk, and is currently going to the gym two to three times a week and working on his endurance training. "I'm trying to eat pasta every lunch time," Andy said, "a guy my brother knows has been giving me useful tips and training advice." Andy is hoping to raise £4,000 for Ruby.
