“Walk The Wye”

More than £3,000 in sponsorship was handed in, by walkers enjoying the annual Rotary “Walk The Wye” event on Sunday 15th May. The footpaths were in great condition, the weather was glorious and the scenery superb.

Many walkers entered into the fun spirit of the day and turned out in a variety of pink outfits. Michele Whiting from Raglan, who dyed her hair a permanent pink to raise sponsorship, and dressed as a fairy, won the award as the most outrageously dressed walker.

The walk event was organised by the Rotary Clubs of Monmouth, Chepstow and Ross on Wye to raise sponsorship money for the breast cancer research team at Velindre.

Rees Rogers, President of Monmouth Rotary Club pictured here presenting a cheque, said: “We were very pleased that over 350 walkers chose one of our walks along the banks of the river Wye, or to the high view points above the river. This is an increase on the numbers walking in previous years, and with many walkers still collecting donations from their sponsors, it looks like being a very successful event. I ask everybody to give generously, to support both the walkers who made such a tremendous effort, and the breast cancer research team at Velindre.
