LEGENDARY Welsh prop Adam Jones was in Monmouth recently to promote his new book, ‘Bomb’.

He was at The Blake Theatre, Monmouth on 11th September, where he spoke about the book, signed copies, and took questions from the audience.

The Beacon spoke to Adam before his talk:

How was the writing process, and why did you decide now was the right time to put it together?

“It’s been in the pipeline for a while now, over the last couple of years; I always knew I was going to write one. The plan was to get 100 caps for Wales and have the book as a celebration of that, but obviously that’s not what happened. About one and a half years ago I really got involved and started talking to publishers, and over the last year I’ve really been going to it with Ross Harries. I was at a bad point of my life and it was kind of like therapy just to talk it out with me.”

How’s Harlequins training going, are you looking forward to the coming season? What about a future as a coach?

“It’s been good, as good as pre-season can be anyway! It’s good to be in a completely different setting too, it’s coming on well. I’ve wanted to go into coaching after playing for a while, being a specialist set-piece coach, but I’m not going to stop playing too soon.”

New laws are being experimented with in the Welsh Principality Premiership this season, (where a try is six points, and both penalties and conversions are two points.) How do you think the rule changes will affect the game?

“Well it’ll be interesting to see how it goes on a professional level. If it causes more rugby to be played then it can only be a good thing. But otherwise we’ll see what happens.”

Best view in Wales?

“Top of the Cribbarth Mountain, near where I was born.”

Which two teams are getting out of the group of death?

“Wales and Fiji”

What is your guilty pleasure?

“Definitely musicals! The last one I went to was ‘Wicked’.
