A TOTAL of £2,328 has been awarded by Waitrose to various voluntary groups from Monmouthshire.

The money from the Monmouth branch was raised through the Community Matters initiative where shoppers place a token in in a box of the good cause of their choice. Since its launch in 2008 the scheme has donated £14,000 to causes across Britain.

Groups to receive funding included: Monmouthshire Trampoline Club, Monmouth Golf Club, The Savoy Theatre, Monmouth Carnival, Monmouth Meadows Group, Monmouth Allotments and the Forest Community Cafe.

Cheques were presented to representatives from each group by Waitrose representative Vijay Maharaj last Thursday (17th September).
