Monmouth Chamber of Commerce members are delighted the town is in line for a top award.

It has been shortlisted in the UK’s ‘Top Towns for Business’ organised by Enterprise Nation and DellUK alongside Newport and Swansea.

The town was entered in the Town/ Business Community category in the UK’s Top Towns for Business competition by chair of the Monmouth Chamber of Commerce, Sherren McCabe-Finlayson.

Said Sherren: ‘‘Our entry detailed the work the Chamber has done over the past two years to support businesses and promote the town, also highlighting the collaboration we’ve had with key stakeholders, and the financial support and collaboration received from Monmouth Town Council.

“We are delighted that Monmouth has been recognised as a strong town for business; we hope this will prove to be a morale booster for our commercial enterprises.

‘‘We are lucky to have a lovely mix of independent retailers, professional services, and tradespeople alongside high street favourites.

‘‘We recognise that we are the underdog in the competition but hope that people will be encouraged to vote so that we can gain some positive publicity for our Town.”

Monmouth Chamber of Commerce has been supporting Monmouth businesses for 100 years.

Paul Matthews,chief executive at Monmouthshire County Council posted: ‘‘I love this - let’s hear it for Monmouth !!!

‘‘Going up against cities isn’t easy but sometimes David’s do need to beat Goliaths.

‘‘Monmouth is our beautiful border county town. It blends ancient old with contemporary new, chains with independents, start-ups with more established, urban with rural and hosts and visitors.

The winner from each category will now be chosen by a public vote.
