Volunteers rolled up their sleeves to tackle litter in the Goldwire Lane area at the end of last month.

Supported by the Monmouthshire 'Tidy Towns' officer from Keep Wales Tidy and the Monmouth Neighbourhood Police Team they collected 6 bags of rubbish.  A clean sweep was made around Goldwire Lane including Cappers Place play area and past the shops.  Another group was also busy the previous week around Carbonne Close and Elstob Way.

Among the volunteers were people who often pick up rubbish in the area close to their homes.   They were glad to know that there were others out there willing to get involved to remove unsightly and sometimes dangerous litter such as broken glass from the streets.

Keeping the ball rolling in the Overmonnow area there will be another two litter pick events to get involved with in September.  Meet on Wednesday, 24th September at 6pm at Cappers Place, and Thursday 25th September at 6pm at the junction of Elstob Way and Holywell Close.

Tom Ward-Jackson the 'Tidy Towns' project officer says 'It is amazing what can be achieved when people get together and support each other.  With some well placed help for groups through 'Tidy Towns' a real difference will be seen in our communities'

The Welsh Assembly Government funded 'Tidy Towns' is a joint initiative between Local Authorities and Keep Wales Tidy.  In Monmouthshire the County Council through Rural Community Action is working with the Tidy Towns Project Officer from Keep Wales Tidy to provide advice, support and help with access to grants.

The photos show volunteers who had cleaned up around Goldwire Lane on the 26th August and also those involved around Carbonne Close and Elstob Way.
