Every two years Penallt hosts a vintage car show to fundraise for the village hall. This year the show was held on Sunday 10th August and, despite the weather bringing torrential rain, was not cancelled. 40 brave motor enthusiasts brought their vintage cars for the afternoon. Over two hundred people attended, despite the downpour and the event raised over £500 for the hall. John Tudgay, who runs the event, said, "We started it about nine years ago in response to a need for more imaginative fundraising." Mr Tudgay is a classic car enthusiast and is pictured here with one of the cars he spends his retirement restoring. "There are a lot of people who have classic cars, I can think of about 20 within the local area. We also advertise in classic car magazines and clubs for people to come along. "This year the weather put people off a bit, especially those with soft tops, but at the last show we had over 140 cars." The raffle was won by Emma Forbes who took home a picnic hamper and the WI's tea and cakes raised not only a considerable sum but also a lot of damp spirits.
