When Second World War veteran Len Jenkin's medals fell into a sorry state of their former glory, he approached the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers (Militia) for assistance.

The Regiment dutifully decided to get his medals remounted and cleaned as a belated birthday present for Len, who celebrated his 98th birthday in June.

The veteran, who survived Dunkirk and served in campaigns in North Africa and Italy, still remains very active and regularly acts as the curator at the Regimental Museum, which is located next to Monmouth Castle

The medals were presented at the monthly meeting of the Monmouth Branch of the Royal Engineers Association by WO1(RSM) Steve Morgan.
