SIR,

We were delighted to hear of the MCC proposal to stop cutting grass verges and plant them with wild flowers. When we came to the area over 20 years ago the verges on our minor roads were full of flowers, but through cutting every May since, they are now just full of weeds. It would be wonderful to have the flowers back so that birds and insects can benefit.

We were disappointed to read in the Beacon last Wednesday (30th October) of a petition in Devauden to support continued cutting. Would the signatories really prefer to see money spent on verge cutting rather than on carers to visit the elderly and disabled in their homes, or on schools and libraries?

Difficult choices have to be made and some things are much more important than others.
