If it's a career in farming you want, then Kerri Ann Roderick and James White are going on the trip of a lifetime to start theirs. Kerri Ann, 20, and James, 19, will soon embark on a once in a lifetime work placement opportunity in Mata Mata, New Zealand with Marvin Farms. Currently, Kerri Ann and James are coming to the end of their studies on the National Diploma in Countryside Management at Coleg Gwent's Usk Campus where they have spent the last two years learning about the farming industry and how it all works. Their next step will be with Marvin Farms where they will spend one year getting to grips with the farming industry in New Zealand, one of the biggest farming industries in the world. The agricultural based company, Marvin Farms were on the look out for experienced students to undertake a one year placement travelling around New Zealand managing and assisting on diary farms. The students needed to be fully experienced in milking and driving tractors. Having seen the campus featured in Farmers' Weekly, Marvin Farms made the call to see if there would be any students interested. Both Kerri Ann and James jumped at the chance, and on Sunday 29 June, will fly to Auckland to begin their adventure. Alyson Moon, Head of School for Landbased studies at Usk Campus, said: "We're all delighted that both Kerri Ann and James will be embarking on this once in a lifetime work placement. "The vastness of the farms in New Zealand will be a huge experience for them, one they would never be able to get here in Wales, or even Britain. "We wish them all the very best and look forward to hearing all about it when they get back."
