Having won their section of Wales In Bloom on no less than 27 occasions, Usk In Bloom members know just what it takes to impress the judges.

Judgement day came on Thursday when competition judge Jim Goodwin visited the town to assess this year's efforts.

Beginning as an apprentice gardener with Derby Parks department and continuing his training at RHS Wisley, Mr Goodwin moved to Cardiff in 1981and became Assistant Director of Parks. He was responsible for initiating Cardiff in Bloom and for the city's success in the 1988 Britain in Bloom competition.
