SIR, For the past four years Monmouth has been living with the threat of nearly 400 houses being built on the flood prone land at Wonastow Road adjacent to the existing industrial estate. 370 houses and some six point five hectares of industrial units were proposed by Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) for the site despite over 200 objections from residents and businesses near Monmouth. The plan went to the inspector and she, in her wisdom, added a further 80 houses to the site so that the proposal is now for 450 houses together with the industrial units. An application DC/2013/00368 has been made for the first 370 of these houses and the industrial units and is likely to come before the planning committee some time this summer. This development will affect Monmouth forever. With the other small developments in the pipeline it is proposed to build an extra 950 dwellings in Monmouth before 2021. That's an extra 140 houses per year complete with cars, children and parents. Goodness knows where the children will go to school or where those cars will park. Those who have to attempt to come into Monmouth through Wonastow Road when there is half a metre of flood water covering the road will be appalled to learn that nothing will be done to improve the situation. The only requirement for the developer is that he makes it no worse. I would encourage everyone who cares about the town of Monmouth to write to MCC's planning department or email them on planning@mon mouthshire.gov.uk and voice your objection. Once planning permission is given nothing will stop this development from going ahead. Bob Hayward (Councillor for Dixton with Osbaston
