SIR,
As always, it was an honour to represent Monmouth Comprehensive School at the Remembrance Service at the war memorial on 14th November.
I was joined by my head boy, head girl, deputy head boy, deputy head girl and the head of history so that we could show our respects.
We were representing the 1,630 students in our school, former students and their families.
In that community there are people who have fought in the armed services and some who have lost their lives.
It was a great disappointment, then, when it came to my head boy and girl's turn to lay our wreath that the name of our school was not read out.
They were reduced to quickly laying their wreath after the Haberdashers schools and before the Scouts Association took their turn.
They were proud to be representing their school and were disconcerted at not being mentioned.
I have reassured them that their presence was valued, both by me and by the community.
While I am sure that it was merely an unfortunate oversight, I am sure you will understand our concern.
I have suggested to Mr Boyle, the Royal British Legion Marshall, that next year, Monmouth Comprehensive School is given its own place on the list either just before or just after the Haberdashers Schools so that in future we are not inadvertently omitted from the wreath laying at the service.
Carole Herman
(Headteacher of Monmouth
