Monmouth Under 16s hosted Undy B and brushed them aside as they have with most other sides this season in the East Gwent League.

With a squad of only 14 players, there was bad news for the side with Luke Cleaves deciding to leave to play Under 19 football.

Manager Nick Oxford was disappointed to hear the news and admitted that even though there was a lot of quality in the squad, only having 13 players will be a massive struggle.

The boys started slowly against Undy and went behind, ironically after a mistake by Cleaves.

The Town stuck at the task, moving the ball well but maybe a little slowly at times – this could be blamed on a six-week lay-off.

Boxhall-James got the Town level as he coolly slotted the ball in the corner, then he put Town in front as he rose to head home an East cross.

East then shanked a cross that was goal-bound but Boxhall-James had his eye on a hat-trick and tapped the ball home.

Luke Cleaves scored the fourth from Connor Oxford's corner.

Phil McMeel finished iff a good move to score a deserved goal and Ryan Lee got the sixth after great work from him and fellow youngster James Badman down the right.

As the sun went down and the temperature dropped, it was time to take down the nets and collect the flags as, like the ball that was drifted down the river towards Chepstow, the boys that used to do it were long gone.

Many thanks to Hank for refereeing, although his son Mikey wasn't happy, and thanks to Steve Hollingsbee for running the line.

Next week, the boys take on local rivals Rockfield at Chippenham.
