Monmouth Town Under 16s entertained local rivals Rockfield last Sunday (16th January) and if the home game had been scheduled for an hour later it would probably have been called off.

Playing in horrendous conditions, both teams have to be congratulated for a great match.

Pritchard was the playmaker in midfield and he threaded a ball through to captain Ryley to open the scoring.

Rockfield soon drew level after the Town failed to clear. Then, against the run of play, Rockfield took an unexpected lead.

Ryan Lee grabbed an equaliser against his old club and the teams went in to the break at two apiece, but manager Nick Oxford was confident that if the Town kept playing patient football their rewards would come.

Boxhall-James took the game by the scruff of the neck and bagged a hat-trick, and also missed a penalty.

Mikey Hiederman drifted forward from centre half to score two and see another shot deflected in for an own goal.

After seeing a first half free kick tipped over, Connor Oxford finally got on the score sheet with arguably the goal of the game.

After some quick passing between Pritchard and Tynan, Oxford drifted inside a defender and smashed the ball into the roof of the net. The returning Cleaves scored to make it 10.

Other players that deserve a mention include Mitchell Hunt at right back, James Badman and Luke East.

It was mentioned at half-time that maybe the Under 16s play too much pretty football but this performance shows that even in awful conditions you need to be patient and stick to your belief of playing in the right manner.
