Paul K. Winter, the Chief Executive of The Leadership Trust challenged his staff to raise money and support charities in the local community in 2008. With funds of £1000 per group to start their projects, eight teams are aiming to make as much money as possible for their chosen charity. Work has already got underway with one group helping to update the playground facilities at Overmonnow Primary School and sponsoring their Balloon Release Day, which raised £315 for the school PTFA. Another group at The Trust, "League Leaders" organised a summer fete at the beginning of June to raise money for the League of Friends of Ross Community Hospital. The fete, attended by 200 people raised £5000 for the charity. One group are supporting Herefordshire Nature Trust by volunteering to work at the White Rocks Nature Reserve to improve the habitats of butterflies and dormice by clearing invasive vegetation, carrying out coppicing, and learning more about the work that the charity does. Sally Rhydderch who helped Overmonnow Primary School said, "It's been a great experience, I've really enjoyed the challenge and the reaction from the teachers and children has made it all worthwhile."
