The competition winners to design a flag for Monmouth were recognised at a ceremony at the Shire Hall last week.

The flag became a montage of elements put forward by the two winners, Steve Vickers and Agincourt School, both were there to receive a copy of the winning design from High Sheriff Andrew Tuggey DL and the mayor of Monmouth, Councillor Graham Pritchard. Andrew explained that it was 800 years since the signing of the Magna Carta and 600 years since the Battle of Agincourt. “We thought it was a good idea to mark the anniversaries with a competition to design a flag for Monmouth and the winning design is a compilation of all the designs that showed the bridge.”

Graham Pritchard added that it was a very special day for the town; “This is the first time Monmouth has had a flag and hopefully this design will last for hundreds of years. You have all played an important part in designing this attractive and imposing flag.”?A flag was then presented to Steve Vickers, whose design formed the major part of the new flag, and one also given to Agincourt School whose ideas also contributed to the final look.
