Two men who drove a town’s aid collection to the Ukrainian border last week will be making a return trip in the next few days.
Aaron Reeks and Tony Howarth of Caldicot Town Team have spoken of “heart-breaking” scenes of refugees fleeing the Russian violence in their homeland on the Polish border.
But the team is collecting another van load, and the pair have pledged to make the return 3,000-mile round aid trip again in the next few days.
Townspeople have flocked to make donations, with a full 3.5 tonne extended truck arriving on the border a week last Tuesday (March 15).
The journey took around 22 hours each way, and the fuel bill totalled more than £1,000.
As part of the six-day trip, the duo donated items to shelters set up for fleeing refugees in disused schools and other buildings.
An appeal for more items and donations has been made on Caldicot Town Team’s Facebook page.
