A portrait of the Queen by a county artist has been given to the town of Monmouth.

Mayor Jeana Hall accepted the painting, which was highly commended in this summer's Monmouth Show, on behalf of the town and it will hang in the Mayor's Parlour at the Shire Hall.

Artist Rhys Probert, who has also loaned paintings of a Spitfire and Hurricane to the Shire Hall, has painted the portraits of numerous royals, although he is yet to meet any of them.

Said Jeana: "Thank you for donating this to the town of Monmouth, I am delighted to accept it.

"It is a wonderful picture – the likeness is extraordinary and her sense of humour shows through."
