Monmouth Town's Kingfishers kept up the pressure on Newport Civil Service and consolidated their second place with a thorough dismantling of a well organised Cwmffrwdoer outfit. Building on last Wednesday's superb comeback for a 4 – 3 win against Undy Athletic, Town were soon into their stride and starting to enjoy the fine surface by spraying about passes which sadly had no end product. Town survived a couple of scares as they also seemed intent on giving away possession cheaply and missing chances that would have settled the nerves of the home supporters. It was it was Elliot Ford who drew first blood, latching onto a raking cross to finish emphatically for his third goal in as many games. The game settled into a fairly mundane affair that not even a mighty Monmouth downpour could excite and it was Rogers on 70 minutes who made the game safe, picking up Bowen's fine pass and twisting the Cwmffrwdoer right back before lashing a show low inside the keeper's right hand post. The remainder of the game was peppered with spats and tussles and marred by some weak refereeing that saw four Monmouth players booked for contesting inexplicable decisions. A triple substitution in the final five minutes added a little spark as first Cleaves then Palmer combined to set up Bowen for the third to seal a comfortable victory. Leaders Newport were held at Abercarn and challengers Treowen also drew leaving the top two to battle it out for honours in a re run of last season's Gwent County Division Two scrap which Monmouth won at the last hurdle.
